Botox® for Grinding

For people who tend to grind their teeth (also known as bruxism), Botox® can be a very effective treatment. A small amount injected into the jaw muscles will reduce clenching and help relieve accompanying tension and headaches you may be experiencing as well as saving your teeth from extreme wear and tear.

Grinding, also known as bruxism, is the involuntary and unconscious clenching and grinding of one’s teeth. Grinding can lead to severe and painful dental problems, and even impact your overall health. Botox® for Grinding prevents patients from grinding their teeth, relieving chronic jaw pain and headaches, and reducing the risk of dental damage.

How it Works

Botox® is injected into the masseter muscle, which is the large muscle that moves the jaw. These injections weaken it just enough to stop involuntary movements like teeth grinding and clenching. The dose is so small that voluntary movements like chewing and speaking remain unaffected. Grinding will stop and the physical symptoms it causes will diminish once the jaw muscle relaxes.

Why Botox®?

Botox® is an effective treatment to alleviate teeth grinding and jaw clenching. Conventional therapies such as nightguards keep teeth from chipping, flattening, becoming sensitive, or developing other dental issues, but they do not address the chronic pain and headaches caused by bruxism. Botox® treats all of these symptoms by targeting the underlying cause of the problem. We consider Botox® the most effective treatment for teeth grinding.
